It’s the time, now, for various artists It’s the time, now, for various artists It’s the time, now, for various artists One is not enough. Two will barely do. Three is getting much closer, now, but four or more is true. It takes more than a village to raise the children right So listen to us, tune on in and you will see the light. Variety just is, my friends, the spice of a good life, so dumping the idea of a pure racial strain is just dumping a load of strife. It takes more than a village, much more than a tribe. It takes every kind of people to create that various vibe. Lyrics by Todd Franklin Osborn ©2021 Heaventree Records administered by ASCAP

You’re moving right through, because you are through, so I’ll keep me and you can keep you. What’s the use of arguing when facts are gone? With no common ground, what can we stand on? You can be right, while I remain in light. I know you think I’m wrong, even as I take flight. You have yours, and so, you don’t care who has theirs, too. In time, you’ll take it all because you think you have to. Lyrics by Todd Franklin Osborn ©2021 Heaventree Records administered by ASCAP

It’s a phenomenon that’s been around for centuries, at least. The ancient Greeks had theater. I wonder if they had stars, too? No, not the ones in the sky...I mean celebrities. Sure. She’s got something special. But is she over her head? Each passing moment tells her. It was during lockdown on a British talk show - they call them chat shows over there - she told a story about once when she misheard someone who referred to her as a film actress, but she heard it as full mattress, and she said it was funny because she thought she had gained a lot of weight. When her time is coming due, she appears like anyone. It’s not her - it’s just her role. Film. A film - a film actress. Full. A full - a full mattress. Film. A film - a film actress. Full. A full - a full mattress. Film. A film - a film actress. Full. A full - a full mattress. Lyrics by Todd Franklin Osborn ©2021 Heaventree Records administered by ASCAP

The time it takes is the time spent on renewal (order venting as the project line appears) The prime objective is the last climb over the wall (Sending forms from the past without tears) Have it your way and I’ll plausibly deny your call (Drown out the voices that do not want us here) The arguments fraught with fallacy will start to fall (Grinding your temper is grinding your gear) Pushing the narrative and pumping the weak spot (The truth is a tool, and like any, it can be abused) “Reach out to meet me halfway” is an awful lot (Primitive methods point to pieces already fused) Dress it up to be something that it is definitely not (The sight of it leaves you with a sense of not being amused) The middle part hollowed out, the shell is left only to rot (You’re still convinced conviction is a small price for being accused) Lyrics by Todd Franklin Osborn ©2021 Heaventree Records administered by ASCAP

Left Over 05:15
Left over from the well of yesterdays, we throw our buckets in and turn the crank, hoping to draw some strength from what rises. We lift up our lives by staying to a path that is leading us onward from the past. We only keep what came before as lessons to guide us. “Only way to come back is to go.” Life experiences teach us that there is simply no going back. From birth to walking, talking, learning, we feel our time passing. Never motionless until our breathing halts, we return to the minerals, water, and salts. The clock restarted, the years are amassing. Lyrics by Todd Franklin Osborn ©2021 Heaventree Records administered by ASCAP

It seems we were sweet when we lived on that street - Remarca Boulevard Youth in the air and no one else to care for on Remarca Boulevard The nights that we spent, we knew not what they meant to us until we were pulled apart. Encased in a plaster of love, the disaster came faster than my beating heart. She said it was that I had become more and more unresponsive. I have a tendency to shut down whenever there is conflict. It all went to shit with the first little bit of bad karma that came around, looking to fall, rebound, and fall again, not from our love, but the walls became paper thin, as the earth caved in. The quake we experienced was not just a metaphor for all our emotional shaking, but the progress we were making was actually destroyed by the world itself. Life was so sweet when we lived on that street - Remarca Boulevard. Our home was a bastion of love that we cashed in on at Remarca Boulevard. Our youth was our intoxication on Remarca Boulevard. It became so intense that we took vacation from Remarca Boulevard. It seems we were so sweet when we lived on that street. Our home was our bastion of love that we cashed in on. Our youth was our intoxication. We had to take a vacation from it -Remarca Boulevard. Lyrics by Todd Franklin Osborn ©2021 Heaventree Records administered by ASCAP

The author painted a picture. Two cousins take an adventure. One is older, already a spinster, beautiful and desperate is the younger. In Italy, the sights and the sounds are nice, but a girl can get squeezed between all the advice. He would not have written her (or any other) character different, as that may have affected his price EM Forster (Here’s) another portrait in words about people so far from home, with yet another young Miss and another older chaperone. Expectation plays on emotions placing them in several seductions, some discreet, and others a Hell of their very own. Lyrics by Todd Franklin Osborn ©2021 Heaventree Records administered by ASCAP

We gather into a collective to give us better chances. There is strength in our numbers. We survive the instances of violence used against us, mitigation by design. So come join our collective. You will like it just fine. The roots and the links of our baser instincts are reduced to their least occurrences. Why didn’t we think of this before? Boot the haters, help the poor, and be sure to build lots of higher fences. We work well in our collective, trying to stay under the radar. If we’re found, we may be conquered by those others from afar. It’s imperative to our way of life to remain isolated from the masses, who will not stop until we are subjugated. We don’t need some stupid song to tell all of us right from wrong. We’ve known about that since we were small. What we need most is detox from the vicious host who infects populations one and all. Where are we going? When we are done, what will become of us? Will we feel numb? Why are we here to experience this fantastic illusion of misery and bliss? How am I able to know what we are? Which path do I follow? Which bright, guiding star will show us the reason, our purpose to be? Who can I always trust when there’s no trusting me? “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.” It takes the time, and makes the sublime earthly again. about

This album began with the potential for multiple collaborations, but ended up being just me. My friend Dan Joy said (on Facebook), "There should be a band called Various Artists." I agreed, and so did others (notably, Dan's friend, Cate Meiers Leggett), and I immediately thought that it was something I had to do. I was thrilled at the idea that I could collaborate with other artists remotely, and then put the resulting album out under the aforementioned band name. Cate and I messaged back and forth a few times, but ultimately it was a bad time for her. Before I had a chance to ask anyone else, I began writing lyrics and recording initial musical ideas. I got so wrapped up in working on it, and the ideas came so quickly, that it took over any thought of finding collaborators. When I suddenly realized I had an album's worth of material, it was more appropriate as a project for The Trans Fatty Asses. The irony of an album called Various Artists where there is only one artist is not lost on me in this post-post-Ironic Age.

about

The Trans Fatty Asses Silver Spring, Maryland

The Trans Fatty Asses made a false start in 2010 when Todd Osborn (drums, guitar, voice, songs) attempted to put a live band together comprised of Bob Crain (drums, guitar, voice), Nick Johnson (Keys, electronics), and Aki Zenji (bass). Zenji had to leave the band, was replaced, but it all splintered after that due to bad timing. Osborn picked it up again as a personal recording project in 2016. ... more
