Originally written in 1989 for Osborn's alternative rock band, Fine Science, Don't Want To Be Free was ultimately deemed not right for that project at the time. The original arrangement was more straightforward rock throughout, but The Trans Fatty Asses version features more dynamics.

Why am I so dumb, believing what I do?
I’m backwards, upside-down. My foot’s on the wrong shoe.

I need someone to understand, to supply some sympathy.
I’m just a baby, baby. Don’t take advantage of me.

I’m obsessive about it. I usually can’t eat or sleep.
Once I step over that hole, I’m already too deep.

I care before I’m supposed to care
(I’m already too deep).

(I’m already too deep).
…and my head hasn’t landed,
and I just can’t command it.
It’s like some kind of bandit.

The Trans Fatty Asses made a false start in 2010 when Todd Osborn (drums, guitar, voice, songs) attempted to put a live band together comprised of Bob Crain (drums, guitar, voice), Nick Johnson (Keys, electronics), and Aki Zenji (bass). Zenji had to leave the band, was replaced, but it all splintered after that due to bad timing. Osborn picked it up again as a personal recording project in 2016. ... more
